Experience is often a hard requirement, yet Frewo Metaal BV chooses a different course.
This Twente family business does not look at your CV, but at your motivation. Anyone who wants to learn is given a chance here. As a regular partner of Euro Planit, we visited and talked to owner Wim Woolderink and four employees: Errol, Malgorzata, Klaudia and Wictoria. Their stories show what is possible when you invest in people.
A family business with a vision of the future
Frewo was once founded by Wim's father. Today, it employs some 60 people in the Netherlands and Poland. The company specialises in producing gears and sprockets, mainly for the food industry. "What makes us special," Wim explains, "is that we hire people with no technical background and train them internally here." At Frewo, almost everyone continues to grow. Employees learn the trade in practice and develop into fully-fledged CNC specialists, even without any prior experience.
From side job to profession
Errol is a good example of this. After a few studies that didn't connect, he started as a Saturday worker. "I discovered here what I really liked: working with my hands, technology, making something," he says. He has now been working at Frewo for ten years. He independently operates the CNC milling machines and programs with CADCAM. "Started by chance, but it was the best decision ever," he says.
A workplace with attention
Malgorzata, Klaudia and Wictoria also came in through Euro Planit and feel valued. Malgorzata: "At big companies, I often felt like a number. Here it's different. You get help when you need it." She tells how Frewo supported a friend after a difficult private situation with extra leave and counselling. "That kind of commitment is rare."
Every day different, always welcome
Wictoria has been working at Frewo for a year now. "No day is the same. You learn continuously and work in a team where you really feel at home." She hopes to develop further and remains curious. Wictoria also started without experience. What started as a summer job became a permanent workplace. "I write everything down in my notebook and practise until I can do it myself," she says. She now rotates independently and feels a full part of the team.
Growth starts with confidence
Frewo does not only invest in technology. The biggest investment goes to people. New colleagues are given the space to learn, make mistakes and grow. And that is precisely what makes them stay. Wim puts it aptly: "If someone is motivated, learning comes naturally."
