What does a lead engineer do?
A lead engineer is the substantive and organisational pivot within technical projects. You are responsible for the technical detailing, but also for managing engineers and monitoring quality, planning and budget. You work closely with project leaders, planners, draughtspeople, suppliers and the customer.

What do you need to become a lead engineer?
For the lead engineer position, employers are looking for someone with both technical depth and leadership qualities. You typically have a completed college or university degree in a technical field and several years of experience in engineering or project development. You are analytical, structured and able to manage a team.
Key skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor or wo degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics or similar
- At least 3-5 years' experience in engineering
- Experience with CAD packages (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, EPLAN)
- Demonstrable project-based and organisational skills
- Managerial or coordinating experience
- Knowledge of standards, guidelines and quality systems
- Strong communication skills, both internally and externally
- Good command of Dutch and English
