What does a mechanic do?

As a mechanic, you are responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing machines, systems or installations. The exact activities depend on your specialisation and the company you work for. For example, you may work in industry, installation technology, mechanical engineering, or the automotive sector.

Typical activities of a mechanic are:

  • Installing machines or technical installations
  • Localising and remedying faults
  • Preventive maintenance of systems
  • Checking technical installations for safety and operation
  • Working according to technical drawings and diagrams
  • Reporting on work carried out

Whether you work on-site at customers or at a fixed location within a company: as a technician, you are an indispensable link in the technical process.

Different types of mechanics

Within engineering, there are several types of mechanics, each with their own expertise. Euro Planit mediates in positions such as:

  • Technical services mechanic - performs maintenance within a production environment

Not sure which direction would suit you? Our intermediaries will be happy to think along with you.

What skills do you need as a mechanic?

A good mechanic is technically proficient, solution-oriented and accurate. Employers look for people who not only spot problems, but also actively think along in solutions. In addition, you often work independently or in small teams, where communication and planning are important.

Important characteristics of a mechanic:

  • Technical insight and analytical ability
  • Experience with hand tools and measuring instruments
  • Accurate working attitude
  • Customer-oriented attitude (especially in service positions)
  • Willingness to work in shifts or on site
  • Basic knowledge of safety (such as VCA)

A completed MBO degree in electrical engineering, installation engineering, mechanical engineering or mechatronics is often required. Don't have that, but do have the motivation? Then Euro Planit can also get you started and develop you further.
