Order picker: working in the heart of the warehouse
Are you precise, do you like to work physically and do you like a structured working environment? Then the position of order picker is for you. As an order picker, you collect orders in the warehouse, check products and ensure that everything is ready for dispatch on time. You are essential in the logistics process and ensure that customers get exactly what they ordered.

What does an order picker do?
As an order picker, you work in a warehouse or distribution centre. You are given a pick list or use a hand scanner to know exactly which products to pick. You collect them in the right order and at the right location, so that the orders can be shipped complete and correct. Sometimes you drive an electric pallet truck or lift/reach truck, depending on your certificates and experience.
You work in a team, but perform your tasks independently. You are responsible for flawless and fast order processing.
Typical tasks of an order picker:
- Collecting products using pick lists or scanners
- Checking quantities, shelf life and product quality
- Preparing orders for dispatch (labelling, sealing, packaging)
- Signalling deviations or damage and reporting to superior
- Contributing to order, cleanliness and safety in the warehouse
- Sometimes: operating an EPT, reach truck or forklift truck
Depending on the sector you work in, you pick food, parts, clothing, electronics or bulk goods. The working atmosphere is often informal and hands-on, with room for independence.
Which sectors can you work in as an order picker?

What skills do you need?
As an order picker, you must be able to work accurately and be physically fit. You do a lot of walking, regularly lift boxes or crates and have to keep a good overview. You work according to procedures, but can also make decisions independently in case of deviations.
Desired skills and attributes:
- MBO work and thinking level
- Experience in a warehouse is an advantage, but not required
- Accurate, responsible and independent
- Physically able to perform standing and lifting work
- Basic knowledge of Dutch (for reading pick lists/safety rules)
- Willingness to work shifts if required
- Certificates for EPT, forklift or reach truck are a plus
