What does a controller do?
As controller, you are responsible for preparing, checking and analysing financial reports. You monitor the organisation's financial results, translate them into insights and advise management on risks, opportunities and improvements.
Depending on the organisation and job title, you work more operationally (e.g. as financial controller) or strategically (as business controller). In both cases, you ensure a grip on figures and processes.

What competences do you need as a controller?
A good controller has an eye for detail, works accurately and knows how to translate figures into understandable insights. You are analytically strong, can think critically and dare to ask questions. You work independently, but also in a team, and you can handle deadlines and pressure.
Important qualifications and skills:
- Completed college or university degree in finance, accountancy, business economics or controlling
- Demonstrable experience in a finance function
- Knowledge of ERP systems (e.g. Exact, SAP, AFAS or Twinfield)
- Proficient in Excel and financial analysis tools
- Knowledge of legislation and regulations (e.g. tax legislation, IFRS, Dutch GAAP)
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Proactive attitude and problem-solving skills
